From 1 May 2026, Firsway Health Centre will be introducing patient led repeat prescription ordering.
For most patients, this means that instead of their local pharmacy ordering their prescriptions for them, they will need to request medication directly from their GP practice.
You will be able to order repeat medication in one of the following ways:
- NHS account/ app – this is the safest and easiest way
- Patient Access online – this method is helpful if you order prescriptions for a friend or relative, or have someone order for you on your behalf
- Via the repeat prescription post box at the practice
The NHS App is the safest and easiest way to request a repeat prescription – giving you more control over your healthcare and taking away the hassle of unnecessary trips to the GP practice. The app allows family members who are also registered at the practice to order prescriptions on your behalf.
The app is easy to use, with a ‘Help’ section within the app to guide you if you hit a problem. It also allows you to choose where your prescription is sent. Prescriptions can be ordered at any time that suits you. There’s no need to wait to join a telephone queue or wait until the GP surgery opens.
You can download the NHS App via the Apple Store or Google Play. If you would prefer to use a PC, you can also set up an NHS account and log in via the NHS website at www.nhs.uk/nhs-app/account/. If you have any difficulty downloading the app, QR codes are available at the surgery and staff are available to help.
Patient Access is a website which also allows you to take more control over your healthcare. The website, with your permission, allows friends and family that care for you, who are not registered with the practice to order prescriptions for you.
Once registered online with Patient Access, please bring 1 form of photo ID and one other form of ID with your address to the practice to have your identity verified and linked to your account.
The prescription post box will remain in reception for paper repeat prescription requests.
If you already order your prescriptions by one of the above methods, these changes will not affect you.
Patients who are unable to order their own medication by any of the recommended routes, are vulnerable and/or housebound, will continue to be supported by the practice and their local pharmacy.
